Course of Study: Radiologic Technology

Course of Study – Class of 2023

The School of Radiologic Technology is divided into didactic (classroom) instruction and clinical practicum. The entire program consists of 3058.5 clock hours. Graduates meet the eligibility requirements to take the national registry examination offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Upon successfully passing the ARRT examination the graduate may be eligible to receive a New York State License in Radiologic Technology by the Department of Health.

First Year:
Classroom 9 am – 4 pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Clinical: Usually 8 am – 4 pm Tuesday, Thursday. Times may vary depending on assignment.

Summer Term:
Full-time clinical hours, Monday through Friday

Second Year:
Classroom 9 am – 4 pm Tuesday, Thursday
Clinical: Usually 8 am – 4 pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Times may vary depending on assignment. Optional evening hours may be available.

Summer Term:

Clinical Affiliates:

Students gain practical experience in all aspects of radiologic technology as they rotate through a variety of clinical settings. During the supervised clinical聽 rotations, the student may rotate through a minimum of four of the following institutions:

St. Catherine of Siena Hospital
St. Catherine & St Charles Health and Wellness Center

Clinical obligations: may include, but are not limited to, background checks, drug screening, travel to geographically dispersed clinical settings, evening clinical assignments and/or an occasional weekend clinical assignment (due to extenuating circumstances only), and documentation of professional liability policy.

Grading System

Academic Course Grading:

  • A grade of 2.0 = (C) = 75% or better in all “RAD” didactic courses must be maintained.
  • If a student receives two or more 鈥淒鈥 course grades, he/she will be dismissed from the program.
  • Students not maintaining these minimum academic requirements will be counseled and those receiving an 鈥淔鈥 course grade will be dismissed from the program.

Satisfactory Academic Performance

澳门六合彩资料网站 Suffolk BOCES wants all students to succeed in the School of Radiologic Technology. To earn a certificate of completion, BOCES has established the following criteria for both attendance and academic progress that students must meet in the School of Radiologic Technology.

Students must meet all of the below before being certified for the registry examination. Criteria for successful completion of the program are:

Requirements for Graduation:

  • Students must successfully complete each academic, laboratory and clinical evaluation course with a minimum grade of 75%.
  • Students must satisfactorily completed each Clinical Competency Evaluation according to ARRT Clinical Competency Requirements to be eligible to graduate from the program.
  • Students must pass two simulated certification exams with a grade of 75%.
  • At this time each successful graduate will be eligible to:
  1. Apply for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination.
  2. After passing the ARRT examination the student may apply for the New York State License as a Radiologic Technologist (LRT) 鈥 (NYSDOH-BERP)
  • Student must receive the recommendation of the program director that you have successfully completed the requirements of the JRCERT, ARRT and the NYS-DOH.
  • Satisfaction of all financial obligations.
  • Student must fulfill the program attendance requirement and the curriculum/completion requirements of the program of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, and the New York State Department of Education (CTE).
  • Upon successful completion of all the above graduation requirements, the student will be awarded a certificate.

Leave of Absence:

Student with verifiable medical and/or personal problems may apply in writing for a 鈥渨ithdrawal with advanced standing.鈥 The student must re-enter the program at the next available class offering to be considered for advanced standing. Students must submit a letter to the Health Careers Assistant Principal requesting readmission to the program. The student鈥檚 request will be considered by the Admission Committee and student will be notified in writing of the decision of the committee.

Withdrawal Policy
Students withdrawing from the program must submit a letter to the Program Director. Upon receipt of a letter, a change of status will be instituted. A refund will be awarded according to the established refund policy only after the student ID badge has been turned into the Program Director.

Student may elect to transfer to another program by submitting a written request to the Program Director. A transfer will be granted only if the following criteria are met:

  1. Student can only transfer to a program currently in progress.
  2. Program Director reserves the right to approve/deny transfer based on student enrollment and sound education practice. Students may only request an inter-program transfer one time.
Transfer Policy
BOCES does not accept credit(s) from other educational institutions. All BOCES programs must be successfully completed in entirety to obtain a certificate of completion.
Attendance
Continuous attendance during the entire 24 month program is essential for proper development as a radiologic technologist. Absences are not expected and excessive absences may result in program dismissal. Specific details and penalties will be discussed during the program orientation.
